Club Sections
Meet like minded people and feel right at home at AULGC

Men's Section

With over 400 male members at the golf club regularly enjoying social and competitive golf there is ample opportunity to meet and play golf with like minded friends.

Competitive golf forms a large part of our men's golf section with club competitions held on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as various roll ups held throughout the week.

There is also the opportunity to represent the club in a variety of team matches from our seniors' matches to our Dunham Forrest team competing in regular matches both home and away.

Ladies' Section

We are pleased to be part of England Golf’s commitment to Women in Golf. We have signed the charter and it has been approved by the R&A and confirms our position with regard to the importance of encouraging more women and girls to play golf.

We are a well-established section and have working and non-working members. Tee times are available for workers to play in the evening in summer.

The section has been invigorated in the last few years by a growing Academy section for novice golfers. They have free membership in the first year and then reduced fees for the second and third years. They receive free group lessons from the Professional and are also allocated a buddy (an experienced golfer) to assist them as they start their golf journey, and play a few holes etc.

We hold many internal competitions, some formal but also some fun ones as the season draws to a close. We run supper nights every six weeks or so in a normal season and have a get together and meal then, as well as giving out prizes for the competitions. This benefit is not offered at all golf clubs and assists in us becoming a strong, supportive unit. We warmly welcome ladies of all ages and abilities. There are currently about 60 lady playing members, eight juniors and over twenty Academy members.

There are lots of opportunities to play competitive golf and we enter teams in the Scratch and Handicap League which are run by Lancashire Ladies golf. We also play in a local league which involves clubs in Tameside. It’s played in pairs and uses the Greensome format. That is a very good grounding for newer players to learn about match-play whilst also learning from a more experienced partner. We have won the Tameside League for five of the last six years.

We also play in the Bell Cup, organised by the Manchester and District Golf Alliance. This is for more premium players and we have won it in the past and reached finals’ day in the recent past.

We also support ladies’ competitions organised and run by the County Association where individuals can enter and compete against ladies from other clubs in a personal
capacity.

Junior Section

Golf for Juniors is all about enjoyment.

We have a proud tradition of producing and nurturing some of the finest young golfers in the Country including Louisa Brunt, (England Ladies & Texas Tech student) Luke Kelly and Matt Nixon (a former British Boys champion and now a European tour professional) to name a few.

Over many years we’ve continually developed a supportive framework to cater for all ages and levels of Junior golf including structured coaching, a shortened course to enable younger juniors to gain confidence before heading out onto the full course and junior competitions.

At present we have approximately 60 academy and junior members ranging from the age of 3 to 18. This coming season our head professional and former AULGC Junior, Michael Boyle will be working with our young golfers so they can learn more about their individual games and most importantly have fun.

Many of our juniors' parents are not golfers and see our coaching and Junior section as a fantastic, safe alternative to other sports.

To encourage continued growth in our junior section we only charge a small membership fee until the age of 16 at which point it is just £2.50 per week.

Seniors' Section

Our senior section is a very active and thriving section of the golf club with an emphasis on friendly competition and a busy social scene. Our senior section is available to all members over the age of 60.

The seniors host a regular roll up on Thursday mornings with all members of the section invited to enjoy a friendly game followed by a nice lunch and a few drinks in the clubhouse or out on the balcony.

The seniors also take part in a series of matches against other golf clubs across the North West with the opportunity to play both home and away.
